“Winners are not people who never fail but people who never quit!” A valuable lesson learned from our special guest speaker, Tyla Nathan-Wong, embedded in the minds of Sancta Maria College’s young sportsmen and sportswomen at our 2017 Sports Prizegiving.

Thursday night saw many of Sancta Maria College’s athletes and sporting volunteer’s commitment, hard work and dedication finally pay off. With many different athletes, coaches, managers and volunteers from different sporting codes coming together to acknowledge one another’s accomplishments, it was a night to remember for these successful award recipients.

Our special guest speaker, Tyla Nathan-Wong, told us a story of success, failure, dedication and perseverance and how she did not lose faith in herself despite injury getting in the way of things. As an outstanding rugby sevens and touch rugby player, Nathan-Wong made her debut for the New Zealand Women’s Sevens team at the age of 18, making history as the youngest player to ever be selected. Becoming an inspiration to all who were present, she taught that we must never give up and keep getting up, no matter how many times we may stumble and fall, as she had learned from experience.
