Back to the future

“A wonderful and inspiring experience and insight into the world of our students/children. Thank you.”

This was the reaction when twenty four members of our parent community saw for themselves what it is like to be a student at Sancta Maria College in the 21st century.

Before heading into classrooms, our principal Ms Moore and deputy principal Mr Green spoke to the parents about the changes in educational approaches since the last century.
The classroom is a far different environment today than it was two or three decades ago.

“Extremely fun and informative day. So interesting to learn how
students today are exposed to modern ways of learning. Would
have loved to attend more classes during the day.”

After a brief tour of the school lead by a group of prefects, the parents headed to classes of their choice. These ranged from English to Japanese, Media Studies to Photography, and Social Studies to Religious Education, with a few more in between.

Having experienced the modern approach to teaching these subjects by posing as students (with a welcome break for interval between classes when they were invited to sample delicacies provided by senior Food Technology students) the parents made their way to the auditorium for lunch and a chance to discuss their experiences.

“It was a very insightful experience. Very happy and feel reassured
that our kids are in the right environment.”

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. It had been both a learning and reassuring experience for the parents who very much appreciated the opportunity to discover the teaching methods used by skilled teaching practitioners in the classroom today.

After assembling for a ‘class’ photograph the parents joined the students for lunch time Mass in the chapel, before being dismissed at the end of an eye-opening day.

Look out for ‘Back to the future 2’. Coming to a Sancta Maria classroom sometime in 2018.
