Eating out brings us closer

Recently, our international students gathered for a wonderful meal together at Paldo, a Korean restaurant. With none of the attendees being Korean, it was really exciting to try out food from another culture.

We usually have these events once a term or at least once a year. It is at such times we are able to sit down, properly meet and get to know each other, so we don’t end up walking past our international family members without noticing each other’s presence during our times at school. Therefore, thanks to all the teachers from international department for arranging these events.

This time, we had visitors from France, along with homestay families, joining us. People from more than five countries sat at the same table and spoke the same language. We experience and appreciate these beautiful moments when, by communicating, we learn to accept and respect people from different cultures: something that was much harder to achieve 50 years ago. I have always found it amusing how countries can be thousands of kilometres away but the people can bring them only centimetres apart. Like a puzzle, countries come together to make up a whole world of different, irreplaceable parts.

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”

1 Corinthians 12:12
