Jazz Night featured artist – Minju Kim

About two and a half years ago Minju Kim got into the tenor saxophone.

“My teacher brought in a saxophone mouth piece for me to try, and when I got an instant sound I thought, “Wow this is for me!”

Minju played the piano and still plays the cello in the Chamber Orchestra. This goes to show what a talented musician she is. Minju likes her tenor sax compared to the other saxophones because, “It has a fuller sound compared to the other saxes. It also surprises people that I play such a low instrument when I have a high voice. I like the reaction it gets,” says Minju.

Minju got into jazz through Mr Cho. He had asked her to join the jazz band and she started to like it. Minju feels excited about performing with her bands at the Jazz Night – they had been thinking about it and organising it for a while and she is happy to say they will be having one annually.

She is looking forward to playing Jenna’s composition ‘Moody’ in the ‘Swingin 8s’ and ‘Count Bubba’s Revenge’ in the big band.

Minju hopes to go to university to study music as well as another subject. Come and see Minju Kim – an amazing young saxophonist – perform with her tenor sax at the Jazz Night; you wouldn’t want to miss it!
