Junior students prosper at South Eastern Zone Netball

Over 500 netball players from 12 schools in East Auckland gathered for the South Eastern Zone Girls and Boys Netball Tournament last Tuesday and showcased their tremendous skill, flair and ability to work as part of a team.

The tournament was a huge success as all the training and hard work that not only the players but also the coaches, managers and umpires put in paid off.

The much anticipated event was held at the Auckland Netball Centre in St Johns and there were a great number of boys who participated and showed that netball is truly a game for everyone.

There were 6 teams representing Sancta Maria College, 4 of them were girls’ teams and the other two were boys’ teams. There were some pleasing results with our Sancta Maria Boys Year 7 team placing second in their pool and because they did so well and secured a top spot, they will now prepare for the Auckland Interzone Netball Championships on August 23. The Sancta Maria Boys Year 8 team finished in 6th place and the Girls Year 8B team finished in 8th place.

The other 3 girls’ teams from our College were the Girls Year 8A, Girls Year 7A and Girls Year 7B. They all placed 4th in their pool and did a phenomenal job considering the competition they were up against. It was a great day and a positive way to interact with different schools and also build a close relationship with them.

A huge thank you goes to Mrs Cummings, our Sports Coordinator, Mrs Judd and all the students who contributed to making this competition an exciting and rewarding event.
