Mathex teams score well

A group of Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 mathematicians from Sancta Maria College participated in the inter-school Mathex competition. We had all spent extra time preparing for the event during lunch times and after school.

The sounds of paper, pens and cheering was all you could hear in the ASB Stadium. We had to answer 20 questions in 30 minutes; the competition was testing not only of our skills in math, but our speed as well.

The Year 7 participants in this exciting event were Alanna Santoso, Benedict Loulie Wijtenburg, Sofia Olan, James Wilde, Ryan Butcher, James Karl, Odile De Jesus and Jayden Lai.

The Year 8 participants were Andrew Botting, Adrian Vargas, Marie Patlong, Aidan King, Charles Gomez, Samara Anubhav, Thomas George and Joseph George.

Year 9 teams were Marcellin Chan Mow, Felix Cheng, Ann Del Rosario,
Kylemore Evans-Parker, Minju Kim, Ryan Kuang, Aron Sanchez, Danny Tam.

Year 10 representatives were Samantha Bottom, Catherine Chan, Jolin Chen, Benedict Del Rosario, Eden Lucas, Bosco Wong, Michell Wong and Eric Yun.

The teams did extremely well and enjoyed this event. The scores were out of 100 – Year 7 teams scored 75 and 70. One Year 8 team scored 60 and the other scored 95. Both Year 9 teams scored 100 and the Year 10 teams scored 70 and 60. It was a great effort by all our contestants.

Overall, although we did not win, we still enjoyed collaborating and working hard as a team as well as having fun. It was a great experience and we hope to be able to participate again next year when we have greater knowledge.
