Maths robots

The Mathematics Department has purchased a set of spherical mobile robots to use in class.

These robots are powered by a battery located inside them and are controlled through an application on a smartphone or tablet running iOS, Android or Windows Phone via Bluetooth. They can be programmed to move by rolling over surfaces.

The possibilities are endless and the mathematics required to programme one of these robots to follow a chosen route can be pretty tricky.

We are looking forward to using them with our students in authentic and rich mathematical contexts linked to many strands such as number, measurement and calculus.
