Next stop: NZ Chamber Music Competition and The Big Sing

Two chamber ensembles and one choir were invited to perform at the Bruce McLaren Retirement Village on Friday, 11 May. We were warmly welcomed into the home. While watching the different performances it was most intriguing to see the residents’ faces light up with smiles from ear to ear.

First on the list was the senior chamber ensemble ‘Accordia’ organised by Mr Stuart Gibbs with Caroline Barbafiera (Violin), Orla Edwards (Viola), Minju Kim (Cello), Chong Bin Wee (Piano) and Kelly Qi (soprano). Next Kelly sang another song accompanied by Chong Bin on the piano. They performed ‘Next Time Around’ and ‘Lingua Franca’.

Harmonique, another chamber ensemble, performed ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’ with Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg (Piano) , Camilla Isip (Cello), Abby Tay-Morrison (Viola), Aliyah Suva and Cassandra Dela Cruz (Violins) along with Anna Nguyen, soprano. Both of these ensembles are performing at the NZ Chamber Music Competition in June.

The final performance included the senior choir ‘Sanctus’ conducted by Mr Roberson and for one piece by Year 9 alto Hannah Dangatan. They performed a few songs from the repertoire for the Big Sing coming up later in the year.
