Open afternoon attracts large numbers

Wednesday afternoon saw a great number of prospective students and their parents attend the College’s Enrolment Information event.

Over 300 application packs were handed out to eager parents, an indication of the popularity of Sancta Maria College.
Groups of excited Year 6 students and keen parents were guided around the school by current students. The tours included visits to a busy gym and all weather pitch, science experiments, some of our jazz musicians rehearsing, our excellent library facilities, freshly baked cookies in Food Technology and a range of activities on show throughout our other departments.

Ms Moore, the College principal, addressed parents with a presentation which covered the school’s Special Character and how it supported academic success. Presentations on sport, music and drama were made as key aspects of co-curricular options.

The highlight of the afternoon was hearing Year 8 students Jade Pereira and Adrian Vargas reflecting on their learning journey at Sancta Maria College so far, and talking about their memories of their first day at their new school.

Ms Moore commented, “The afternoon was a great success, and is a small part of the transition process which is so important for Year 6 students. They need to know as much about their new school as possible, and meeting teachers and listening to the experiences of our junior students who remember this important step well, also helps them feel welcome into our community.”

Applications for Year 7 places at the College close on May 31.
