Plenty of promise shown in loss

The Girls 1st XI football team came up against a fast and skillful Botany College in their first game of the season. Conceding a goal early in each half did not make life easy as the girls fell to a 4-0 defeat.

However, the score line should not take away from the effort the team put in and the wholehearted way they kept tackling and covering until the final whistle. Indeed, for a spell towards the end of the second half the girls put pressure on the opponents goal and Sophie Ruka narrowly missed with a well taken shot.

The highlight of the game was an incredible save by goalkeeper Orla Edwards. While backpedaling towards her goal she leapt acrobatically to tip a goal bound shot over the bar. Definitely plenty to build on for the next game.
