Pompallier Shield results

A group of students from Sancta Maria College travelled to Marcellin College in order to participate in the annual Pompallier Shield Competition.

Sancta Maria College has been entering this competition for over 5 years, and every year fields one student into each category: Junior Speech, Senior Oratory, Junior Scripture, Senior Scripture and Maori Scripture, as well as participating in the drama exhibition.

This year, the competition was tougher than ever as our students faced off against the likes of Liston, St Peter’s, De La Salle, and long-time winners Sacred Heart. We also presented a collaboration song with Marcellin College, and entered a musical number alongside our drama performance.

At the end of the day, we came away with 2nd place in Senior Scripture and 3rd place in Maori Scripture, an outstanding achievement considering the calibre of the competition we were up against. The three senior competitors (two of whom placed) will be graduating at the end of 2017, so new students willing to rise to the challenge are always welcome to continue the Sancta Maria College legacy.

Congratulations to our Pompallier Shield competitors, and thank you to the support team who offered their encouragement throughout the night:
Junior Speech: Lorenzo Cruz
Senior Oratory: Elizabeth Leaning
Junior Scripture: Adam Martis
Senior Scripture: Cuan Pillay
Maori Scripture: Henry Elliott
