Sancta Maria College Visits Stardome

Big Bangs, Super Novas, Shooting Stars, our solar system is forever changing.

Year 7 classes participated in 3 different activities. These activities included a detailed PowerPoint presentation about our Solar System, a fun and challenging group work quiz and a Stardome display which we watched while laying back in the big reclined arm chairs. Each activity was very interesting and everyone discovered something new.

My favourite part was the quiz. We were all placed into our groups and then set off to each station to figure out our 8 knowledge testing questions. No one left without an extended knowledge about our Solar System. During the quiz we walked around each of the stations along with many more and we found out about Matariki, the Sun and Moon and much, much more. The quiz was challenging and it really tested our common knowledge.

Lastly was the Stardome show. At first we learnt about all the stars and the patterns in the sky, including Maui’s Fishhook. Next we watched a short video about our planets and if they were safe for living creatures like humans to live on. Overall it was an out of this world experience and no one left without an extended knowledge about our Solar System.
