Students enlightened by careers evening

The most daunting FAQ of “What do you want to do when you leave school?” seemed far less intimidating after the careers evening.

Universities, polytechnics and institutes from both ends of the country gathered in the auditorium on Thursday to help give those present an insight into what could be their near future.

While the free pens were definitely a perk, knowledgeable advisors were also helpful in providing advice, awareness and direction to parents and students’ ever churning questions about tertiary education and possible careers.

Unfortunately, the presentations of these universities and institutes were hindered when after about half an hour, and with the auditorium full, the event was plunged into darkness due to a local power cut. Nevertheless, this did not extinguish the spark of the event itself as the evening continued for another hour and a half, torches providing a beacon to the future in the darkness.

As some of the components of the evening were cut short, these presentations will be rescheduled for another time. However, even with the obstacle of semi-darkness, the night still continued to provide direction for those wishing to discover their vocation.
