Students showcase musical talents in annual School Music Concert

Thursday night saw various students showcase their musical talents to share with family and friends in a range of different music ensembles. From our Jazz Combos to the classical styles of the Orchestra, everyone had an awesome time performing and listening to a range of different music.

The school Concert band, conducted by Mr Arthur, opened the concert with 4 pieces blowing away our audience, followed by the very talented Jazz combos which showcased very brilliant soloists, directed by Mr Cho.

Those acts were then followed by the Junior Choir, directed by Mr Gibbs and the Senior Choir, Sanctus, conducted and directed by Mr Roberson and these choirs were able to fill the audience’s ears with their lovely voices.

The orchestras, all directed by Mr Gibbs, were capable of preparing different pieces for the audiences to hear, from Paul McCartney’s ‘Yesterday’ to Hedwig’s ‘Theme from Harry Potter’. And a very well done to the Primo Ensemble for making their debut, considering these students have only picked up the instruments for the first time this year!

The show closed with a bang as Mr. Cho’s Big Band performed 5 pieces which made the audience dance in their seats!

This concert was able to give SMC’s 3 main ensembles: the Concert Band, the Big Band and the Chamber Orchestra a chance to prepare for the annual KBB Festival happening during Week 4.

The students in the ensembles and the music department would like to thank all of the family and friends who came to the concert.
