Trash to Fashion

This term students from 7LIS and 7CLE started to come up with ideas for costumes that our models would wear while walking on a catwalk. 7LIS and 7CLE made these amazing recycled outfits because our term three topic for social studies is innovation, exploration and sustainability. Our costumes had to be innovative and must show new, original and creative ways to use recycled materials.

All designers and models learnt new skills including sewing, teamwork, confidence, creativity, sustainability, crafts and design. Everyone gained new experiences and made new friends while co-operating with different students and exploring new ideas.

The catwalk was held on Monday 21 September. Our beautiful and talented models had to walk through the pod and into DU3. They were judged by Mrs Croxford and Mrs Lynch, with a very special guest, Mr Green. The winners were chosen because of the effort and detail put into their outfits, and of course their originality. The competition was very close but in the end we had our worthy winners. Here are the placings…

1st: John Jin (Modelling Kiwi Trash), Ellen Caudy, Danjana Hurren, Jenny Joseph and Hayley Clark.
2nd: Aengus Walsh (Modelling Desire), Berlin Mangu, Hannah Dangatan, Alex Dela Cruz and Katie Wang.
3rd: Sophia Milantoni (Modelling Pom Pom PowerPuff), Jorja Mackay, Mikaela Lai and Salavaaia Lusi Ulupoao.

Overall the day was extremely successful with all of the models and groups pleased with their costumes.
