Unwanted mobile phones and glasses needed

With Enviro week soon approaching there comes the Environment Team’s initiatives for this years Enviro Week.

One of the focuses this year is recycling old mobile phones and glasses. The mobile phone campaign is run by Sustainable Coastlines New Zealand. This drive encourages people to recycle their mobile phones so that they can be reused or deconstructed in an environmentally safe method. Sustainable Coastlines provide an environmentally safe drive to get rid of old mobile phones as contamination after rainfall deems 69% of New Zealand’s rivers unsafe to swim in.

The recycling glasses drive is run by the Lions Club which has been ongoing for 25 years and have handled over 38,000 pairs of glasses. When you recycle your old glasses the Lions Club sort through them and then send them off to the Pacific Islands where they can be given to those who live in isolated areas of the islands and can’t afford glasses.

Both of these initiatives are for very worthy causes. So in preparation for Week 3 Term 3 the Enviro team encourages you to search through your belongings over the holidays so when week 3 rolls around everyone is able to donate to this good cause.
