Year 7 Multi-sports Sports Committee House Competition

From the 30 July to the 3 August, the Sports Committee hosted their first year-level competition. During week 2, Sarah, Holly, Grace, Samantha, Anna, and Caelan (Sports Committee members) ran the Year 7 multi-sport house competition at lunchtime on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday lunch.

Year 7 students voluntarily came along to support their house and gain house points, by participating in this activity. Each student from their house battled it out through various games. These games consisted of frisbee, soccer, netball, one touch, basketball, and hockey. The Year 7s favourite sport was basketball.

The house with the most participation by students showing up was Kororareka, winning 50 house points plus extra bonus house points to anyone wearing a house coloured top. In second place, Akaroa scored 40 points; followed by Waitemata in third place winning 30 house points and Hokianga in last place with 20 house points.

One of the members in sports committee who helped host the sports week, Holly Maunsell-Young said, “It was cool to see the kids getting stuck into the games and having fun.”

One of the participants said, “It was a good experience, and I loved playing. The people in charge did an excellent job of organising multi-sport. I think that when I’m older, I would like to host a sports day too!”

Throughout Term 3, there will be a range of different year level sports competitions in order to promote house competitions and house participation.
