The 1st XV went down 22-19 in a hard fought game against Edgewater College. The boys battled away against a much bigger pack that eventually was the difference in the wet conditions.
The backs had an improved performance and Luke O’Connell led from the front and was awarded player of the day. It was a massive effort all round, the boys showing commitment from the start and finishing the stronger team.
It was a truly David and Goliath contest as the forwards battled away against a much larger pack. The work rate, team work and tackling was deserving of a better result but it was just not Sancta Maria College’s day. The lineouts definitely showed much improvement from last week. The backs also put in a huge effort, looking strong in mid-field. The team’s kicking game showed promise which gave the outside backs something to chase.
The promising performance gives the team plenty to work on this week with a home game against another big side in Southern Cross this coming Saturday.
