Sancta Maria College has been supporting the 40-Hour Famine for over 15 years as it is an important part of our Special Character. This year, we were very fortunate to have a representative from World Vision, Luke, come speak to us. During his talk he shared eye-opening facts and information which inspired many students and teachers to take action.
The funds raised this year are going to help protect the children in sub-Saharan Africa from the hunger pandemic. $6 buys a family fast-growing seeds and $41 provide life-saving food for a whole month. $94 trains 15 families to form a saving group helping them afford food and $250 funds an entire community garden.
An example of an amazing project is from the homeroom class of Dr Laux, 13GNS. In their last year of college, they discussed leaving a legacy and doing something for the wider community. So, 13GNS will be raising $250 to plant a community garden! Each student is contributing $5 then Dr Laux is matching the remaining. As active participants in the world, they came together as a homeroom getting involved in raising money for World Vision.
