On the first weekend of the Term 2 holidays, a group of students from Sancta Maria College competed in the New Zealand Karate Cup tournament at the Auckland Netball Centre in St Johns. They participated in both Kata (flowing form/technique) and Kumite (sparring/fighting) events.
In an incredibly successful tournament, all 5 girls posed with Grant Holland: The President of Karate NZ, wearing their bright and well-deserved medals.
Cassandra Dela Cruz placed second in the Female U21 Premier Kata
Aliyah Suva placed first in the Female 16-17 Intermediate Kumite
Ann Del Rosario placed first in the Female 16-17 Intermediate Kata
Sofia Dela Cruz placed first in the Female 14-15 Intermediate Kata
Isabela Dela Cruz placed first in the Female 12-13 intermediate Kata
Through years of training, and months of intense preparation, they have each gained valuable experience for the years to come.
