Congratulations to Fiona Sheng and Ava Neems for their top ten finishes representing Sancta at the 2022 Eastern Zone Championships.
The Championships for 2022 were held at the Lagoon and Leisure Centre, Panmure.
Due to Covid restrictions no relays were held, and heats were excluded this year. This resulted in straight-timed finals, so there were also strict qualifying times.
Because of these strict criteria, only a limited number of swimmers were eligible to enter.
Fiona Sheng (Year 8) competed for the Junior (U14) girls and Ava Neems (Year 10) competed for the Intermediate (U16) girls.
The two swimmers placed top 10 in their age groups for the 50-metre butterfly, 50-metre breaststroke and the 50-metre freestyle.
Afterwards Ava commented, “I was a bit nervous and didn’t think I did my best.”
She clearly feels the best is yet to come, and is already in training for next year’s meet.
These girls did an amazing job representing Sancta Maria College and we will continue to give them our support.
