A Chess competition for Auckland (South and East) was held Monday, 9 May where we had 12 eager and practiced players representing SMC. Competitors were:
Aaron Santoso, Andrew Botting, Phuong Do, Kingston Smith, Luke Do, Jeremy Dreyer, Lorenzo Flores, Jiahao Weng, Rocky Liu, Cesar Garcia Soto, Jacob Fischer, Wan Yao
On the day – there were seven rounds of chess played, and for every match won, you earned one point. Every match drew, you earned half a point, and for every match lost, you got zero points.
Here’s the results from the day:
SMC Senior team were placed 2nd
Aaron Santoso placed 3rd overall, followed by Andrew Botting and Phuong Do (who placed as top female player, overall).
SMC Intermediate team were also placed 2nd
Luke Do was our top player, followed by Wan Yao and Cesar Garcia Soto.
Both Teams qualified to the next level which means they will compete in the regional finals – well done team! Your hard work and effort is clearly paying off! And, a big thank you to Mrs Santoso and Mr Dreyer who supported the students.
