Senior Choir awarded a commendation at Big Sing

Last term, the Sancta Maria College Senior Choir performed at the Big Sing, a competition where choirs from schools across Auckland, united by their love and passion for music and singing, come together not only to compete but to celebrate the skill of one another. At the competition, our Senior Choir performed three pieces; Cantar by Jay Althouse, Ave Maria by David Childs, and a rendition of Found/Tonight by Jacob Narveud, a combination of two pieces by the musical Alexander Hamilton.

The choir delighted such a trip, as we were able to indulge in the various different musicality skills on show. With the choir also on display, they brought home a commendation award, something they did not expect and something that hadn’t been achieved since 2019. Their love of music and performance does not come out of a desire to win medals but out of a desire of hearty performance which they and the audience enjoy. We immensely appreciate the work and dedication that Mr Gibbs and Mrs Rhodes have put in to the choir’s rehearsals and organisation. From countless re-do’s of a few bars to an 8am rehearsal, the commitment to what the choir attains is a sight to see. Congratulations to all.
