On Wednesday 18 September 2024, the Sancta Maria College Year 7 & 8 debating final took place. The two teams, Team Twinkle and Team Barbie, had been preparing for almost five months, and their talent, dedication and skill was illustrated in this final debate.
This was an impromptu debate, where the students received the moot one hour before the debate itself, and only had the hour to plan without using any devices. The moot was “This House Would ban actors under 16 from running their own public social media accounts.”
The winner of the debate was Team Twinkle, featuring Danadi Ranasinhe Arachchilage, Sophia Carlos, Marcus Ely Apostol, Tammy-Kay Spinks and Angelica Araos, mentored by Sofia Bryan. We congratulate these students and their amazing achievement. We also thank the guest adjudicators, Miss Bracey and Mr. MacLeod, for giving up their afternoon to support the students and judge the debate. Mentors are super proud of both teams and the improvement they have demonstrated this year.
