During Week 9 of term 3, Em-J Abuyan and Joshua De Guzman, both Year 12 students and members of the Kaitiakitanga group, learned how to set up and manage rat traps. Alex and Mathew from Pest Free Howick guided us through the process of placing six traps in the native forest between our school and Botany Junction, along Te Irirangi Drive. Removing rats and pests in our community, will help attract more native birds to the area and help regenerate native plant growth. While setting the traps, we even heard a tui flapping its wings above us. Thank you Em-J and Joshua.
