Sancta Maria students achieved some excellent qualifying times and distances on Wednesday representing the college at the Counties Manukau Zone Athletic Championships. It was an early start for the team as the school van left the college for the drive to Massey Park in Papakura at 7.45am with an air of excitement and expectation for our athletes.
This positivity was rewarded when Year 13 student Erica Lim finished second in both the 100m and 200m Senior Girls races and qualified for the Auckland Championships in both events.
The day was also very positive for Antonie Smal who came second in 80m Hurdles, second in Javelin and third in Discus, qualifying for the Auckland Championships for both the 80m Hurdles and Javelin events.
Additional accolades went to Ryan Clifford who came third in Long Jump, Astyn Bidois who came second in 200m and 300m (qualifying for Auckland Championships for both) and Nina Wilson, who came first in Discus and second in Shotput, thereby also qualifying for the Auckland Championships.
Jason Raad came third in 300m, Marielle Venida came first in both 100m and 200m, qualifying for the Auckland Championships.
Ava Ellis, Leana Heffernan, Yuan Leal, Mia Makaore, Kayleigh Pieters, and Mya Tubu all also competed well in their respective events, but did not place in the top three this time.
Well done to all of our students, and our best wishes go to the athletes representing the college at the Auckland Championships on 25th March.
