JL Lopez and Gerard Domingo are two young basketballers already making an impact on the court. The two Year 9 students, are part of the U15 Counties Manukau Black representative team who won 2nd place in the U15 Boys Division 2 in the 3-day Easter Tournament.
The U15 Counties Manukau Black team competed with 13 other teams and had a 6-1 win-loss record. They were undefeated in Pool 2 and fought a very close grand finals game that went neck to neck until the final minute before bowing to Pool 1’s Harbour Black, with the final score at 43-35. ‘It was really challenging as there were so many good teams,’ says centre JL Lopez. Power forward Gerard Domingo added, ‘It was a really competitive tournament.’
Both JL and Gerard play for the Sancta Maria College Under 15 team and are looking forward to a successful season which starts in term 2.
