You won’t want to miss the College Music Concert this Friday evening, 12 August in the auditorium. Featuring the concert orchestra, concert band, jazz band and choir there will be something for everyone. At only $5 for adults and $2 for children it is not to be missed. Who will be performing? – find out here…
Friday was a big day for our music students, who took up an invitation from Mission Heights Primary School to give a concert. Over went our Choir, Orchestra, Junior Jazz Combo and Senior Jazz Combo.
It was a perfect opportunity for Mr Cho’s two Jazz Combos to get some practical experience before their appearance in the Auckland School Jazz Band Competition, two days later – in fact, it was a first public performance for both combos.
Our newly assembled Choir gave its first public performance of the year under the direction of Mr Roberson, singing ‘Shenandoa’. The Choir features talent from all of the school’s year groups and is shaping up very nicely for a tilt at The Big Sing in 2017.
The Orchestra, under the baton of Mr Gibbs, also gave its first public performance since the school production in May. Several new players were incorporated and they gave a gentle rendition of ‘Edelweiss’ (with Mr Roberson helping out with an impromptu lead vocal), Faure’s ‘Pie Jesu’ and a noisy rendition of Charpentier’s ‘Te Deum’ – the latter two pieces prominently featured Vincent Brzozowski as the principal trumpeter.
The whole concert was well received by the large audience which comprised of all of MHP’s Years 4, 5 and 6.
Now come along and hear our amazing performers for yourself – this Friday evening in the College auditorium.
