It was a tough day at the office for Sancta Maria College teams today, with all three sides experiencing losses. However, if results go their way tomorrow, there is still the opportunity to progress further in the tournament.
A runaway counter attack after a fantastic piece of offence saw the Sancta Maria 1st XI football girls go down 1-0 to Mt Roskill this morning. After dominating for three quarters of the match it was heart breaking to see the girls fall to the Central Aucklanders 3-0 at the end of the match. The girls fought hard and maintained most of the possession until the last 15 minutes, but were still left hunting for their second goal of the tournament and first win.
Western Springs was the opposition for the afternoon and while the girls had great hopes of coming out with their first win and gaining a possible top 3 in the pool, it wasn’t to be. Western Springs outmuscled the girls in blue and took some great strikes from distance as well as up close which saw them close out the game 5-0.
Sancta Maria have their last pool game early tomorrow morning against Aotea College which is a must win to avoid the wooden spoon of pool play. Previous results from the opposition indicate that Sancta Maria have more than a fighting chance of getting some crucial goals and a win to finish 4th or 5th in their pool.
Unfortunately, the Sancta Maria Premier netball team lost both of their games on day 2 of UNISS. After losing by 1 goal to Whangarei Girls, the team secured second place in their pool meaning they are able to advance to the next checkpoint; Top 16.
The hockey girls also found a win hard to come by, losing 0-5 to Matamata and 2-7 to Waiuku.
