Peer Support ends on a high note

The winning classes were thrilled with their hard earned success and over all, the 2016 Dance-Off and Sing-Off competitions were a great success.

The Year 7 Sing-Off competition marked the end of the year for Peer Support, where all Year 7s made their Homeroom teachers and their Peer Support Leaders proud by belting out hearty tunes of meaningful and heart-felt lyrics, swinging and swaying to the rhythm of their songs. Each determined to be the best! It was an inspiring experience to watch. However, there could be only one winner, which was 7BRN. Runner-up went to 7CLE and highly commended was awarded to 7DNN, 7GNS and 7LIS.

Not to be out-done, the Year 12 Peer Support Dance-Off had a dynamic, groovy and electrifying atmosphere. Each Homeroom, along with their Student Leaders and Homeroom teachers, were ready to thrill their audience and their Homeroom peer competitors with their performance designed to show off their creative flair of rhythm and steps and their Homeroom togetherness. Not a single Homeroom disappointed. However, 8CLE was the standout class, taking out 1st. Place, while 8BRN, 8DNN, 8GNS and 8LIS received Highly Commended.

These inter-class competitions helped to bring the students closer together as a cohort, as it was “challenging to choose songs everyone liked, but now we are all so much closer and everyone joins in the fun, we’re all one big happy family,” said a group of Year 7 students from 7BRN, the winning home room. The peer support singing and dancing competitions also boosted the confidence of the students, especially year 7s who are still adjusting at the school, who said, “winning felt really good because we worked so hard as a class and it paid off in the end.”

“Working together to overcome disagreements and put our pieces together taught us to communicate better and we are much closer as a class now,” said students from 8CLE, who won the Year 8 Dance-Off.
