Year 8 trio find success in orienteering

Wednesday was an exhausting but fun day for 3 year 8 boys – Harrison Edwards, Tyler Halliday and Ryan Clifford.

The students took part in the Year 7&8 Auckland Secondary Schools individual orienteering championships that was held in the Woodhill Forest, North West of Auckland. Their adventure got off to a start at 8:45am and they were all supplied with compasses, whistles and maps that displayed contours. The contours were the lines on the map indicating how high above sea level something was and the ups and downs of the land. They also had to navigate around streams and lakes.

The boys really enjoyed the day and put in a tremendous effort and it all paid off with Harrison securing a top spot, finishing in 3rd place and winning a medal. Tyler and Ryan also did really well to finish in 5th and 6th place. Overall they were happy with their achievements and are looking forward to competing in the North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships next week in Taupo.
