Chamber Orchestra earns a KBB Festival Award

Sancta Maria College’s Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mr Gibbs, was the first of our school ensembles to take part in this year’s KBB Music Festival.

Performing at St Mary’s Church in Parnell, our 22 players ran through their set, which consisted of Hedwig’s Theme (better known as the Harry Potter theme) by John Williams, Summertime by George Gershwin (with vocals by soprano Kelly Qi), Yesterday by The Beatles, the theme to Chariots of Fire by Vangelis and then a medley of themes from The Planets by Gustav Holst.

It was a well-played set and the judges were suitably impressed to give the orchestra a Commended award. This is the first award for our orchestra, which certainly was the youngest one on show that day. We can be very proud of our young players, who have continued to improve and will take great confidence from this experience as they look to move forward as a group and develop as musicians.
