Auckland’s top secondary school athletes gathered at Mt Smart today under perfect weather for a track and field event. Students Casey Lototau, Zachary Saunders, Erica Lim, Laura Richardson and Abby Noble-Campbell represented Sancta Maria at the Auckland Secondary School Championships 2018. This was a long day for many athletes with some competing in multiple events in a very competitive environment, yet some outstanding results were achieved by our athletes.

Zachary did us extremely proud bringing home a gold for the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.46s, a bronze in the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.93 seconds and jumped 1.70m in High Jump.

Year 8 Casey competed against students one year older than her and achieved incredible results, with a throw of 20.22m in discus and in the 100m, 13.60s in her heats, with 13.69s in her finals, placing her 5th overall in the Junior category.

Erica who is in the Intermediate grade placed 6th overall in 100m with a time of 13.16s; a time of 26.94s in the heats of the 200m which was a personal best for her, and 27.19s in her finals where she placed 6th overall, along-with the 400m where she attained 5th overall and a time of 1.02.34.

Laura competed in the 400m Senior Girls and placed 7th with a time of 1.07.91. Abby who also competed in the Senior grade for her final year achieved 4th overall in the 200m, running 27.81s in her heats and 27.85 in her finals.

Well done to all these athletes who competed today. We hope to see more upcoming athletes next year and good luck to Zachary and Erica who will be competing at North Island Secondary School Championships next week.
