Weeks of preparation have all lead up to this moment. The Pompallier Shield. The Pompallier Shield is a competition involving all thirteen Catholic schools in Auckland, and Pompallier College in Whangarei.
At the competition there are different areas in which the participants from each school compete. The different areas are: Junior Speech, Junior Scripture, Senior Oratory, Senior Scripture, Maori Scripture and Religious Drama. In each area the judges give the performance a score out of 100. The school who has gained the most points overall is presented with the Pompallier Shield.
All of our participants worked hard in preparation for this year’s competition. This year we gained 3rd place in Senior Oratory through Year 13 student, Helen Pahulu. Helen also participated in the Waiata (song) section, which was not part of the competition.
The College also placed 2nd in Religious Drama through the performance of our Year 12 Drama students, Meggy Laguda, Ella Flores, Gail Calicdan, Isabella Foliaki and Patrick Florendo.
Although we did not win the shield this year, I am sure we will come back next year, ready to take the Shield home.
