“I saw Minju playing the saxophone and it looked and sounded cool, so I thought ‘I have to try this’,” says Jenna.
Eighteen months ago Jenna put down her violin, setting aside many years of practice, and began to enjoy the swinging sounds of jazz.
Now a key member of the College’s Swingin’ 8s, Jenna is influenced by the music of jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and Stan Getz. Her passion for jazz is aroused by the ability to improvise.
“Every time is different, you make the music your own,” she tells me.
On Jazz Night the combo will be performing Jenna’s own composition ‘Moody’. This will be only its second public airing. Jenna enjoys composing and hopes to convey ‘happiness and energy’ through her writing.
Come along to Jazz Night and prepare to be amazed by this talented young musician. Jenna and her saxophone are a partnership you will not want to miss.
Jazz Night – at the College – Friday, September 21.
