In this series of articles, we find out about our student leaders, their background, roles and ambitions. Today we feature our Academic prefects, Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg and Joshua McCarthy.
“I believe academic success doesn’t always have to involve excellences.” – Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg.
The new academic prefects for 2019 are Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg and Joshua McCarthy.
Both students are involved in many extra-curricular activities, in school and outside, through sports, academic related activities and preparing for life outside of Sancta Maria College. All students will experience ‘failure’ at least once in their lives, this may be because of many factors, but a main goal for both prefects is to have all students achieve to the best of their ability and be proud of what they achieve.
“Another goal I have this year is to develop a greater balance between study and other areas of our lives for our students. This is by creating a balance between things such as sport and spending time with friends, as this not only creates less stress but also increases the effectiveness of our study and learning by breaking it up into physical and fun activities.” – Joshua McCarthy.
Both academic prefects want the absolute best for everyone and want everyone to do their best, no matter their previous academic background, they want everyone to have an equal chance of passing.
Some things the prefects would like to add or improve, is to try and make a balance between sports, work and friends, improve the support systems even more, arrange for tutors and mentors of the same age, peer mentoring groups, spelling bees and many more ideas which are still in the making.
Overall, the Academic Prefects for 2019 have set themselves the goals of increasing the number of students achieving to the best of their ability and making learning fun and enjoyable for everyone.
