Sancta Maria College’s 1st XI hockey girls started the season with a convincing 5-0 win against Macleans College.
The two teams were very evenly matched, with the first half of the game being back and forth until the first Sancta girls’ goal, scored by Finley Dougherty. The team worked extremely hard getting the ball out of the defensive end up to the three attackers who sprinted up the turf passing amongst themselves until Finley received the ball in the attacking circle and hit a powerful shot straight past the opposition goalie goalie.
This goal sparked more confidence in the team, inspiring them to score another four goals and continued to keep the Macleans attackers out. It is correct to say that both teams played an amazing game and that you could hear the great communication of the Sancta girls from the sideline.
This win is a great starting point for our girls on this year’s journey and they can only improve. A special mention goes out to Graham Remedios, a Year 13 student at Sancta Maria College, who stepped in to coach the girls. He did an amazing job preparing the girls for this game, when regular coach Ms Bradley could not attend.
