Orienteering in the junior school of Sancta Maria College remains a stronghold. Notably over the past couple of years with many students taking interest and competing at a high level. This week was no different with a group of seven students taking part in the Year 7 & 8 Auckland Interzone Orienteering Championships.
The students were Alicia McGivern, who competed as an individual runner, and a team of six boys: Lucas Cooper, Thomas King, Cameron Motion, Rory Quiding, Isaac Sheng and Antonie Smal.
The boys worked soundly, finishing 9th overall in the Orienteering Finals with a combined time of 68 minutes, 27 seconds.
Year 8 student, Alicia McGivern carried on the great success she had last year in the Orienteering Sprint Finals and South Eastern Zone Champs with another tremendous result, placing 2nd in her event with a time of 14 minutes, 31 seconds.
We look forward to following these talented students and no doubt there will be more encouraging results in orienteering throughout the year.
