A health and safety course took place on Thursday for a group of 25 Sancta Maria College students and three students from Elim College.
It was hosted by ‘Safety ‘n Action’, a professional training organisation committed to achieving high standards of safety in the workplace and was organised by our school’s careers department.
The students learned about what they can do to prevent, minimise and eliminate risks and hazards in the workplace. They were taken through the review for continuous improvement which is the steps which need to be followed when identifying any new or old risks in order to manage and create a safer work space for everyone. T
he day was very beneficial and saw students become clearer on the risk assessment calculator and potential likelihood table, used to assess the level of risk presented by a hazard and where control measures can be applied to reduce the level of risk.
Students got a ‘School Hazard Identification Risk Management Assessment’ pack which consisted of a workbook and a question booklet which was used for their Internal assessment. Every person passed and gained eight credits at NCEA level 3.
