Counties Manukau Zone Athletics success

Auckland Athletics Championships highlights
Year 8 Thalia Lam (11) competed in the Junior Girls (U14) shot put and discus, placing fourth in both events against competitors two years her senior.
Mikaela Bangalan, Mya Tubu, Mia Makoare and Marielle Venida earned silver medals by placing second in the Senior Girls 4x100m relay.
Marielle Venida defended her titles from 2022, placing first and taking home gold for the Senior Girls 100m and 200m. She also broke the record for the senior girls 100m – twice. The previous record was set over 20 years ago in 2002. Marielle ran 12.02 seconds in the semi-final, then ran even faster in the final, clocking 11.82 seconds.
National Athletics Championships highlights
Continuing our success throughout the Athletics season, Antonie Smal (Year 12) also gained 1st place in the summer National Athletic Champs held in Wellington, with a huge throw of 49.81m in his chosen sport of Javelin.
