Auckland Philharmonia mentors our Young Musicians

Audrey Basilio

Our aspiring beginner musicians worked endlessly for the upcoming Playing In South Orchestra concert on the 27 August 2024, held in Manukau Auckland Stadium. They were required to learn the songs Strauss’ Radetsky March and Brahm’s Hungarian Dance No.6

Now known as our future Festival Orchestra, in preparation for the upcoming concert, some students were lucky enough to spend a two-hour musical mentoring session with three amazing players from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra: Lauren Bennett (violin), Ashley Brown (lower strings) and Gaby Pho (woodwind and brass).

This mentoring session and concert event is a major step forward for our younger players as they work towards not only earning a place in our senior orchestra, but also finding the passion to continue their musical journey. It was a wonderful session that saw students receive one-on-one tutelage from professional musicians – they certainly came away with more skills and enthusiasm for music.

Thank you to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Mr Gibbs and other support staff who have contributed to this wonderful event.
