Sancta Maria students helped raise a magnificent $649.70 for Totara Hospice on Saturday. Dr Laux and Mrs McCreath joined the group of students selling delicious pastries, bread and pies generously donated by Wild Wheat Bakery (Picton Street, Howick).

Today saw a special Powhiri to welcome the year 7’s, new students, internationals students and new staff into the Sancta Maria College community.

On Friday, our intermediate students and families gathered in the auditorium to celebrate our Year 7 and 8 students’ achievements.

On Thursday, December 5, Year 9 and 10 prizegiving took place. Parents and caregivers, and many invited guests happily gathered and celebrated the accomplishments of the middle school awardees for 2019.

This Tuesday, some of our students participated in the second session of our newly developed pest trapping programme. Even in the damp weather, a group of students went around the creek behind the school to check on previous pest identification traps and set our new traps. It was a very enjoyable and eventful experience!

Wednesday Mass is usually held in the Chapel. At the final lunch time Mass for 2019, we took things outside to the new Amphitheatre.

Last week, the Year 10s travelled to Ngaruawahia for a four-day camp. This Christian Youth Camp consisted of a number of exciting activities for our year group to bond and develop friendships. Over the course of these four days, our year was split into 12 different groups in which they would participate in all activities. The activities were spread over the four days.

We ended up second equal in our pool of 6 so were into the 5th/6th placed playoff game matched up against the third placed team from the other pool. Our aim was to restrict Glendowie to 120 or less and we carried that out by bowling them out for 109. Jayden Corriera grabbed 4 wickets and was the standout bowler, well supported by all the SMC fielders.

Once again, it was that time of the year at Totara Hospice when Hospice volunteers attended their end-of-year Christmas luncheon. This year, volunteers had the choice to attend on November 29 or 30. Mrs McCreath, Sophia Bebelman and Joshua De Guzman were there on the November 30 to distribute the Christmas parcels put together by 7LIS and 12LIS.

Five Sancta Maria College students are part of the Black Ice Synchronised Ice Skating team that won the mixed age grade at the Australian Ice Skating Nationals on Sunday afternoon. They are the first team from NZ to win at the Australian Nationals. Congratulations to Victoria Heald, Maddy Blincoe, Nicola Bebelman, Courtney Wertheim and Katrina Chan.
