Mikaela Bangalan, Meara Magsalay-Downie, Cyprus Causer and Alanna Santoso participated in the south and east NIWA science fair. From term two, they have been working on this project as part of the science club. Meara and Mikaela worked together while Cyprus and Alanna worked individually. They delivered their project last Thursday and were interviewed by the judges on Friday. The prize winners will be announced at Elim College on August 27.

Cans for Christmas was established in 2015 as a community building project between the Catholic Schools around New Zealand to donate cans of food to their local St Vincent de Paul or Foodbank. Over the July holidays, Sophia Bebelman, along with three other students represented New Zealand at the Biology Olympiad against 70 other countries or 280 other students. The New Zealand team came back with two silvers, a bronze medal won by Sophia, and a highly commended.
