This year the Auckland Down Syndrome Association held their 11th annual buddy walk at Tahaki Reserve, near Mount Eden. The event consisted of a 3.5km walk around the mountain, jump jam, food stalls and entertainment such as bouncy castles, raffles, auctions, live music and more.

Students work alongside gifted Italian artist

Italian artist, Pepe Gaka (Giuseppe Maria Luigi Percivati), joined us at Sancta Maria College to help our students complete our newest art work, ‘Immacolata’. This will be Pepe’s final artwork in New Zealand before he heads to Canada where he will continue his busking journey around the world. Pepe is dedicated to both art and religion and his artworks reflect this.

Japanese students view Jewels of Kyoto performance

Geisha girls are well known, even in western culture for their white painted faces, long, carefully woven kimono (Japanese gowns) and immaculately presented hair. However, the first step to becoming a Geisha girl, is first becoming a Maiko which is a Geisha apprentice. Maiko girls do not attend high school, or university, instead once they are finished Junior High School at the age of 15, they leave their families to attend a Maiko school, where they participate in rigorous training in Japanese traditional arts including, tea Ceremony, flower arrangement, and dancing.

Senior boys touch team tenacious in defeat

Despite the tough start to the season, going down in the first game 7-2, team captain Liam Sutherland was able to inspire the boys and lift their spirit. Even though they didn’t win a single game there was a tangible sense of brotherhood and banter. Through a gallant display of courage, perseverance, and strategy the boys, playing with a squad of only 5 players against One Tree Hill’s undefeated 10, were able to play their best game of the season.
