After school onThursday, members of the environment team as well as Mrs McCreath, Mr Gray and Dr Laux worked on the butterfly garden.

It was the time of year when the Year 12s make the short journey across the road to the Korean Church to spend the day in reflection on their annual retreat. Everyone felt refreshed by the day, having time for individual meditation and together, developing values that lead to God.

During Period 2 on Tuesday the Year 9s got to see a wonderful performance by the SMASHED team. They taught us all about the dangers of underage drinking and the effects of it. The team acted out a scenario for us as well, so we got to see the situation and learn how to deal with it.

Saturday marked yet another round of netball for Sancta Maria’s netball club, with teams achieving some incredible results. However, windy weather conditions proved to be difficult for some teams to score goals.

Our school’s Senior Choir, of almost 60 members, represented the school at the annual Big Sing competition on Tuesday and came home with the ‘Spirit of the Festival’ award.

Our jazz students enjoyed a 4-day trip to Wellington to experience a new level of Jazz. We watched competitions, concerts and strolled around Wellington for an immersive and up-close experience.

The 40hr famine Bake Sale kicked off a big weekend for students who were taking part in the charity event, through sacrifices such as no eating, no talking or no sugar.

Members of the ‘Over the Rainbow Paper Cup Project’ were witness to something quite amazing. On the morning of Friday May 3, a chrysalis attached to a kale leaf was brought in from a vegetable garden. A Year 9 had predicted that the chrysalis would hatch into a Monarch Butterfly 11 days later, and how right they were. ‘Flutter By’ was seen drying her wings as she emerged from the chrysalis on Tuesday, May 14.

In very difficult and windy conditions the coaches devised a game plan to suit the weather pattern which meant that open running rugby was not the best option. The boys kept the ball close amongst the forwards into the wind in the 1st half for our 1st XV game on Saturday against Tangaroa College.
