The 40hr famine festivities have begun. And the school’s committee are calling on everyone who may be interested in baking for Friday’s bake sale. We would love to have as many volunteers as possible contribute baked goods and help a great cause, with all proceeds from the bake sale going to the children of South Sudan who are seeking refuge in Uganda.

Lots of action on the basketball court last week with the Open Boys team winning 82-19, the Year 7/8 Spartans taking out their game 51-6, the Junior Premier A Boys and Under 17 Boys winning 82-9 and 44-21 respectively while the Junior Premier B Boys played out a 32-32 draw.

$340.10 was raised at the Yellow Cupcake sale, organized by the Year 10 and 11 students of the French department in conjunction with Mr. Bidwell, a trustee of the ‘Penguin Rescue’ organization.

Every year Sancta Maria College has their own talent quest and 2019 is no different. So many different acts performed and each one was watched carefully by our 4 judges, Miss Smith, Mr Bacon, Mr McKie and former student Helen Pahulu. There was beatboxing, comedy and a lot of singing. But there could only be one winner – Marina Jones and Aloyze Tafu who sang a beautiful song mashup of Illusion, Apple of My Eye and I Don’t Wanna Talk About It.

It’s that time of year again when Sancta Maria College celebrates its annual feast day. This time of year is very significant for the school as it is used not only to reflect on our school’s values, but it is celebrated so we, as a school, can remember the importance of the Visitation.

Another cross country done and dusted. With a huge thank you going out to all the students and staff for organising the event. It was great to see the school’s spirit come alive within the students encouraging and supporting one another in the race. The run the was held two weeks ago at Barry Curtis Park. The feedback from the students was that the location was the perfect choice being able to have a different and exciting new experience.

The Year 7s went to Catholic Schools Day on Tuesday. They met the students from Our Lady Star of the Sea, Saint Marks Catholic School and Sancta Maria Catholic Primary School. The Mass was absolutely delightful with four schools singing in unison. Even the rain didn’t stop them from having fun and reuniting with their friends. This was a day to remember.

The Daffodil is the symbol of the cancer society. We have planted daffodil bulbs in the Olive Grove, and this is the beginning of our Remembrance Garden. They are encircled by netting cages at the moment to make sure they will not be damaged while they grow to full height.

Following Thursday and Friday’s event (planting trees by the Year 7s and 8s) was the community planting day last Saturday. This was an open invitation to any one in our community who wanted to plant trees behind Sancta Maria Primary.
