Congratulations to Grace Joblin and Samantha McNamee, two Year 13 students, for gaining their zone theory umpiring badges. Both girls are well-respected umpires within the Howick Pakuranga Netball Club, AMI and the Sancta Maria netball community. They are both netball players with Grace being in the Sancta Maria College 1 team and Samantha in the Year 13 social team.

The Sancta Maria College football teams continue to register pleasing results. Last night’s Junior girls football game was no different.

Competing at the New Zealand North Island Olympic Weightlifting Championships two weekends ago, Year 9 student Olivia Selemaia lifted 76kg in the Clean and Jerk while also breaking 4x U15 and 3x U17 New Zealand records.

Last Friday the Year 12s took a break from their hard work at school and had their Recreation and Leisure Day.

After the Enviro Team joined Enviroschools, we had our first project with them on May 24, 2019. The focus of this project was about the environment, trees, and wetlands. In this case, we were planting trees behind Sancta Maria Primary, while also planting beside Chapel Rd and Te Irirangi Dr.

Saturday marked an amazing netball day and the fourth week of the competition round, with perfect playing conditions. The sun was out and Sancta Maria Netball Club girls were ready to bring their A game to the courts. The teams did well and continue to show improvement as the week’s progress.

Last week, the Year 12s were pleased to have four members of the Islam community talk to them about the religion of Islam, showing how it had many similar beliefs to Christianity.

It was another glorious day for rugby on Saturday as our 1st XV had their first away game at Sacred Heart College. Unfortunately, the score line favoured Sacred Heart 53-22 at full time. We let in a few early tries at the start of the game but at the break the boys regrouped and scored 3 very good tries in the second half.
