It was incredibly nerve-wracking for the participants, most of whom spent the ride to Macauley High School anxiously doing last minute prep. The Pompallier Shield is an annual competition for all Catholic secondary schools in Auckland, where the colleges compete in 5 categories: Maori scripture, Junior Scripture, Senior Scripture, Junior Speech and Senior oratory.

Sancta Maria College participates in an extensive range of sports including netball. After the highly anticipated grading rounds, the exciting 2019 season of netball begun. Our Sancta Maria Premier Netball Team has many hopes for the coming season. The team consists of 10 talented young players: Aerin Henry, Sina Maunsell-Young, Hannah Ralph-Smith, Holly Maunsell-Young, Gemma Holt, Sarah Wallen, Shawna Stowers, Jorey Matulino, Sophia Ibbetson and Ashleigh Swainbank.

For Year 9, Pink Shirt Day was filled with laughter, fun and the willingness to accept each other! This year, the Year 9s really wanted to show our support for Bullying Free week. Many classes found their inner competitive side and participated in decorating their classes to the best of their ability. Since the theme was being an upstander, there were kind messages everywhere and a video was created by the Year 9 well-being ambassadors to teach each other about standing up to bullies.

Passing balls, fast moving feet and the shrill whistles from umpires, it was the third game of netball for this season. The HPNC courts were buzzing with players and their supporters. For some teams, this brought on a challenge, for others a chance to show off their skills.

Friday, May 17 was one of the most successful Pink Shirt Days yet. All the classes decorated their classrooms with bright pink to represent their support for this cause. Pink Shirt Day is all about raising awareness around being bully free and being an upstander rather than a bystander in bullying situations.
