Sophia Milantoni is playing the lead role of Gabriella Montez in next week’s performance of High School Musical Jr. The character she plays joins East High School and is an academic genius with a wonderful singing voice. She catches Troy’s attention the first day she comes to school and starts singing with him and ends up singing with Troy in the school’s musical production.

Before the sunlight had climbed up from behind the hill, a group of international students gathered in front of the school entrance, excited about the trip that was ahead of them. The international students were heading towards the lovely city of Queenstown, to expand their experience and knowledge of New Zealand and its culture.

Students of Sancta Maria College, parents and friends who would like to be part of the Otara Creek restoration programme led by NZBSL are welcome to join us on 25 May and help planting native trees along the stream. Meeting point: Sancta Maria College, overflow carpark

Playing the lead role of Troy Bolton is Elijah Rata. “Before I got the lead, I had background in music. I learnt and played piano for two years, but later decided to move on. The teacher basically taught us songs we would like to learn. By picking a familiar song, we had to sing and perform it in a crowd at the end of the year annual recital to raise money for charity.

This Friday we have a school disco in the auditorium for our Year 7-10 students. Funds raised will be used in support of next week’s Junior Production of High School Musical.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from the cashier or at the door on the night. There will be refreshments available for purchase. Come along and join in the fun from 6.30pm.

Since the beginning of the year, May 11 is the day many seniors have been looking forward to. Not because it’s a Saturday but because yesterday was Sancta Maria College’s annual school ball.

This Saturday marked the second weekend of the season at Howick Pakuranga netball courts (HPNC). A lot of Sancta Maria College teams deferred their game and will play later on this coming week, due to the time of the game clashing with preparations for the school ball. The school team that stood out this weekend was SMC College 9, winning against Sunnyhills C6 14-10.

The fog didn’t dampen the netballers’ enthusiasm to play netball on Saturday morning. This was their second game of the netball season and the teams had much improved results today with 5 wins and two losses. Although for some teams the game was challenging, they had improved and developed new netball skills.

Joanna Grochowicz, a well-known NZ author, came to Sancta Maria College to tell us about her fiction books. The Year 8s are learning about narratives this term, so it was a great inspiration for our English skills as well as a boost for our creative minds. Joanna visited 8GNS and 8CLE and summarized her books leaving us in awe of her wonderful writing skills.
