Three Sancta Maria College students, Kelly Mascarenhas and Sydney Causer (both pictured) and Katrina Chan, represented our school at the Race Unity speech competition, making it through to the regional semi-final.

Saturday’s blue sky and bright sun proved to be the best weather conditions for all those girls playing netball at Howick Pakuranga Netball Club (HPNC) and AMI (Auckland Netball). The first day of the netball season saw all Sancta Maria College teams playing other schools and clubs. The team that stood out this weekend was SMC College 3, winning against Pakuranga United C2.

The first day of netball for this season was exciting for the year 7 and 8 players as they got into the competitive spirit of the games. A sunny day was a blessing. The teams began their practices last term and were ready to face the competition.

As part of the World Religion topic for Level 2 Religious Education the Year 12 students were visited by a member of the Fo Guang Shan temple in Flat Bush to hear her speak about Buddhism.

Sancta Maria College’s 1st XI hockey girls started the season with a convincing 5-0 win against Macleans College.

Whether it’s the science experiments Sophia Bebelman’s mum had her and her sisters doing before they had even started school, or the homework completed during long car rides home, there are many things that have shaped Sophia’s story. For the Year 13 student, being named in the top 24 for Biology in the country is only just scratching the surface. The prospective medical student will be travelling to Hungary in July with 3 other students selected to represent New Zealand at the International Biology Olympiad.

During the Easter break, the news was announced that one of our Year 12 students, Carman Chang, has won third place in the Secondary School Media Competition.
